I Can’t Stand It!
“Our kitchen is outdated and doesn’t function how we need it to,” points out Heather.
Matt groans. “I know right! It’s too small and doesn’t have the storage space we need for sure. I bet we can find more things we need to change too.”
Heather nods quickly. “Exactly. That’s why I suggest we start looking at doing a kitchen remodel.” Matt nods back. “I’m in. How much does a kitchen remodel cost?”
Heather shrugs and picks her phone up off the kitchen island. “I’m not sure, let’s see what Google has to say. Maybe we can find a contractor who has a kitchen remodeling information page on their website.” She starts searching through Google for answers.
Here’s what she finds and shares with Matt:
How Much A Kitchen Remodel Costs
The cost for a kitchen remodel ranges from around $40,000 to $130,000 and higher. It depends on the extent of the remodel, kitchen size, material choice, finishes, appliances, overall design, age, and damages.
- Base Kitchen Remodel Cost – $40,000. This includes signature cabinets with new countertops and backsplash, upgraded lighting, and new floors.
- Average Kitchen Remodel Cost – $70,000. This includes signature cabinets with higher-end countertops and backsplash, upgraded and extended lighting, and new floors. It can also include knocking down a wall.
- High-End Kitchen Remodel Cost – $130,000. This is for a fully custom kitchen with custom cabinets, layout reconfiguration, new appliances, high-end finishes, and new floors.
The Main Reasons Kitchen Remodel Costs Can Change
The extent of the remodel – Getting new floors and cabinets is one thing, but if you overhaul your entire kitchen the cost will increase a lot. The more you want to do the higher the cost to remodel your kitchen will be.
Kitchen size – Larger kitchens usually cost more because they can take more time, material, and labor to finish. Smaller kitchens can be pricier depending on the other factors listed here.
Material choice – Higher-end materials look amazing, tend to look better for longer, and have an air of elegance, but they do cost more. Lower-end materials can still look great, but they don’t have the same effect.
Finishes – Painting, staining, and other finishes all change how much a kitchen remodel costs.
Appliances – New, top-of-the-line appliances are fun and useful, but those come with a larger price tag.
Overall design – The more complicated the design, and the overall job, the more your kitchen remodel will cost. You can always do your kitchen remodel in parts so you don’t have to spend everything at once.
Age. Older kitchens usually need more work. Plumbing, electrical, appliances, and other aspects may need updating during the remodel.
Damages. It’s not uncommon to find damages before and during a remodel. Wood rot and water damage are fairly common. If we find anything we’ll contact you and ask what you’d like to do.
